Orphanage
Late. Vaibhav Phalnikar Memorial Foundation was established in the year 2001 by Mr Vijay Phalnikar and his wife Mrs Sadhana Phalnikar after the sad death of their only son Vaibhav, who died of blood cancer, at the tender age of 15.
Mr Phalnikar was helped by some of his socially aware friends in forming the Trust. Initially the Trust provided an ambulance service, at modest charges, to the needy around the area. It also extended finacial help to 10 needy students. Later on in the year 2002, the Trust started an Orphanage "Apala Ghar" in Warje Malwadi area which has ben registered under Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. Today "Apala Ghar" provides shelter, food, medicines and other facilities including schooling to 50 children from different parts of Maharashtra. The entire set up has since been shifted to Donje at the foothills of Sinhagad Fort.
Old Age Home
Due to incessant efforts made by all concerned and also due to generous donations, five self-contained cottages having double occupancy complete with all amenities have been constructed for those who want to get away from the humdrum of city life and enjoy the peaceful and serene atmosphere, at very nominal payment. Besides, provision for senior citizens has been made in the main building free of charge. All these inmates are being provided break fast, food and other facilities. A very beautiful temple of Lord Ganesha has been built in the courtyard.
